(pronounced Chah-Won-Yah) is a dynamic singer whose diverse singing styles include the musical elements of hip-hop, jazz and traditional as well as contemporary gospel.  Born and raised on the Westside of Chicago, Chawanya has travelled internationally to share her musical talents with the world.  She began her musical career as MC Frosty in 1992, singing and rapping in local Chicago area shows and collaborating with Ed and Dre of 90’s R&B group Public Announcement. A naturally gifted dancer and entertainer, Chawanya moved on to work with such musical greats as Anita Baker, H. Town, Quincy Jones III, Mint Condition, Toni Braxton, Tom Burrell and the late Luther Vandross. She contributed vocally to the 9/11 tribute song “A Soldier’s Heart”, released by R&B superstar R. Kelly in late 2001. She was also given the honor of performing for the wedding of nationally syndicated radio show host Tom Joyner to Donna Richardson in 2000.  And Chawanya was featured on the Gospel Artist, The Brown Sisters European Tour in 2011.

Chawanya’s talents as a performer have also extended into acting – she has appeared onstage in various gospel plays such as “My Grandmother Prayed for Me”, where she portrayed the lead role of drug- addicted granddaughter Samantha, and “Where is My Father”, where she worked as a pit singer. Her skills as a singer have been utilized in numerous commercial jingles for popular brands such as Turtle Wax and McDonald’s, and she contributed four songs – “He Is Faithful”, “My Rock”, “Get Into This Word” and “Don’t Hold Back”—to the Sow-A-CD Project for Living Word Christian Center in 2000. Her latest compositions “Free to Be Me (FREEDOM & REMIX)” are, in her own words, “self-empowerment anthem, to help create a world free from prejudice, judgment and self-doubting environments while encouraging everyone to celebrate the originality in all of us.” The topic for the Join us on YouTube!
